Allergy treatment
One
way to treat allergies is to avoid the source of allergens, but
sometimes that isn’t possible. Ear, Nose and Throat doctors,
called Otolaryngologists, can perform a series of tests to determine
the causes of allergies and develop a plan to manage them.
Medical
management includes counseling in environmental control as well as the
use of a number of medications including antihistamines, decongestants,
and steroids. The only long term treatment available for inhalant
allergy is the administration of injections that build up protective
antibodies to specific allergens (pollens, molds, animal dander, etc.).
